Lake Country Satellite Joins the Satellite CARES program
This past year many member companies have joined the Satellite Broadcasting & Communications Association’s Satellite CARES program. This time we welcome Lake Country Satellite. Company owner David R. Varner feels that joining the Satellite CARES program was a smart move considering their non-profit and company endeavors. “We are already the recognized leader in our community for providing Exede high speed Internet, so it just made good sense. I have always wanted to build a mobile office platform we could also use to provide emergency communications in the event of a disaster. Plans had been in the works to build our trailer for 2 years. After the SBCA came out with the CARES program, I knew it was time to build our communications trailer and join CARES.”
Located in Boydton, VA, Lake Country Satellite launched in 1988 as CTS Security Services. At that time, the company’s main function was selling electronic security, access control and CCTV to the commercial industry later expanding to include telecommunications and cabling for Internet connections in commercial buildings. While they primarily work with Exede products, they install DISH and DIRECTV as add-ons upon request.
Helping those who are less fortunate is something that Lake Country Satellite has done for years, in fact they created a non-profit organization called His Hands International. The organization helps children and families in Guatemala. “Throughout the last 10 years we have helped in various ways, from helping a village replace water lines washed out by flood waters, to providing clothing and food to needy families, and through our Christmas Shoes Project,” said Varner. He went on to say, “The Christmas Shoes Project is an ongoing effort to place new socks and tennis shoes on extremely poor children’s feet in Guatemala who otherwise would have no shoes. So by joining CARES we can continue doing what we love to do, helping people. We can bless folks right here at home through technology in the event of a disaster.”
Access to technology is also Varner’s argument for encouraging other member companies to participate in the CARES program. “It helps provide a vital communications link at a critical time. Families and friends may be completely cut off from the rest of the world. You can help provide peace of mind to victims and their families just through a phone call, email, or video chat, letting their families know they are alive and safe. This vital communications tool helps reduce an already stressful situation. That is just one of many ways your skills can be put to use helping in a time of need.”
Varner took his call to action further by addressing Exede dealers. “…I want to encourage every Exede Elite Dealer out there to join this program. You have already proved that you are a leader, take the next step and be there for your community by joining the CARES program. Let this year be a year that you are responsive to the needs of others. Join CARES today and BE responsive!”
